Een van de meest fascinerende ontwikkelingen van de afgelopen zestig jaar mag toch wel het ontstaan van de messiaans-joodse beweging genoemd worden. De beweging heeft haar wortels in de Verenigde Staten en staat bekend als ‘Messianic Judaism’. Messiaanse joden belijden Jezus als de Joodse Messias en hechten groot en blijvend belang aan hun Joodse identiteit. Ze zien hun geloof in Jezus niet als strijdig met het houden van de Thora. Jezus wordt door hen vaak beleden met zijn Hebreeuwse naam ‘Yeshua’. Intussen treft men in allerlei landen gemeenschappen van messiaanse joden aan, met name in Israël.
